Beijing – On the sidelines of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s (AIIB) 10th Annual Meeting, AIIB President Jin Liqun held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance of Georgia, with the goal of strengthening the Bank’s partnership with Georgia.
The meeting acknowledged strong progress in ongoing collaboration. The meeting discussed key initiatives in the country, including the Tbilisi Metro Modernization Project (USD125 million, approved in 2024), which is enhancing urban mobility in the capital, and AIIB’s inaugural project in Georgia, the Batumi Bypass Road, a strategic section of the Middle Corridor, which has to date successfully addressed complex terrain challenges with the construction of five tunnels and 19 bridges.
AIIB is also supporting Georgia’s private sector through innovative financing solutions. A recent engagement includes a transaction with TBC Bank, aimed at bolstering access to finance and economic resilience.
Looking ahead, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen the cooperation. Georgia’s strategic location as a bridge between Europe and Asia—across transport, energy, and digital corridors—continues to anchor its engagement with AIIB. The dialogue also delved into prospects for future cooperation. Parties explored opportunities to advance green and digital infrastructure, enhanced regional connectivity, private capital mobilization, and policy-based financing to help Georgia advance its low-carbon, climate-resilient development agenda.
