Yerevan is negotiating with representatives of Georgia to allow several dozen trucks with Armenian cognac stuck at the Upper Lars checkpoint to travel to Russia. This is reported by the Ministry of Economy of Armenia with reference to News.am .

The ministry noted that more than 30 trucks have already entered the Russian Federation, and the "possibility of movement" of the rest is currently being discussed.

Last week, the Minister of Economy of the Republic, Gevorg Papoyan, said in parliament that 72 trucks with cognac were still in Georgia, and 52 had already received permission to cross the border.

The publication notes that Armenian cognac producers regularly protest against "hindering the process of exporting Armenian goods through the territory of Georgia" due to the fact that alcohol exported to Russia and the Baltic States "is subjected to spontaneous laboratory tests, which leads to huge delays and financial losses."

In the fall of 2024, it became known that the Cabinet of Ministers of Armenia renamed the cognac produced in the country to Armenian brandy. The decision was announced shortly after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that there is no such thing as Armenian cognac, in this case it is about the "intangible value of France."
