In 2018-2023, the volume of bank liabilities issued to the energy sector has doubled and holds a significant share in the total business credit portfolio.

According to the central bank’s new study, bank lending to the energy sector exceeded GEL 2 million by the end of last year, which exceeds the figures of 2022 by almost half a million.

s share in business loans stands at 7% with highly concentrated portfolio.

"The energy sector portfolio has one of the lowest level of credit risk (1.2%). Compared to other sectors, loans with an average maturity of twice as long, with similar interest rates, are issued to the energy sector," the study reads.
