Despite the opposition of part of the Republicans, the US House of Representatives supported the defense bill for 2026 with aid for Ukraine, according to The New York Times.
Yesterday, 10 September the House of Representatives adopted the bill on defense policy for the amount of 892.6 billion dollars, which provides for the increase of military readiness and the rise in salaries of American servicemen, at the same time prohibiting the provision to servicemen of medical assistance taking into account gender equality and rejecting efforts regarding the protection of access of servicemen to abortion services.
The bill was adopted by 231 votes against 196. The voting passed almost entirely along party lines. It showed how the Republicans turned the annual Pentagon defense document — which earlier was supported by both parties — into an instrument of advancing their conservative social ideas.
At the same time, despite the wave of opposition from Republicans to providing military aid to Ukraine, the defense policy bill provides for the allocation of 400 million dollars to the Pentagon’s initiative regarding assistance to Ukraine in the field of security.
The House of Representatives rejected the proposal of Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from the state of Georgia, to cut the financing of the country; at the same time, both Republicans and Democrats voted against.
In August, the United States approved new military aid to Ukraine for $203.5 million. RBC-Ukraine wrote about what the allocated funds will be directed to.
It is also worth noting that in recent days, Ukrainians named the countries that provided the most aid since the beginning of the war.
