The Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, which sentenced Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former General Director of the “Co-Investment Fund,” to 11 years of imprisonment.
The case concerns the misappropriation of cryptocurrency belonging to Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of “Georgian Dream,” for which the Tbilisi City Court sentenced Bachiashvili to 11 years of imprisonment.
For reference, the Tbilisi City Court found Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former General Director of the “Co-Investment Fund” and associated with Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of “Georgian Dream,” guilty of misappropriating cryptocurrency and sentenced him to 11 years of imprisonment. The Tbilisi City Court judge found Bachiashvili guilty of two charges: misappropriation of a large amount of money and legalization of illegal income. For the charge of misappropriation, he was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, and for the legalization of illegal income, he was sentenced to 11 years. The latter sentence absorbed the 10-year sentence, resulting in a final sentence of 11 years of imprisonment. For reference, in this case, Giorgi Bachiashvili was charged under Article 182(3)(b) and Article 194(3)(c) of the Criminal Code, which pertain to the misappropriation of a large amount of money and the legalization of illegal income, accompanied by obtaining an especially large amount of income.
