In the 3 months of this year, Georgia purchased 69 tons of wine worth $748 thousand from abroad vs 158 tons worth $1.1 million in the same period of last year. Accordingly, wine imports into the country plummeted by 56.3% during this period.
The main importing market for Georgia is Italy, from where 37 tons of wine worth $264 thousand were imported in January-March . However, imports from this EU country have declined as in the same period last year, 64 tons of wine worth $410 thousand were imported that is 42.1% less than in January-March 2024.
The list of the main importing countries of Georgian wine is as follows (2025/3 months):
• Italy - $264 thousand, 37 tons;
• France - $325 thousand, 16 tons;
• Latvia - $28 thousand, 4 tons;
• Spain - $48 thousand, 4 tons;
• Germany - $21 thousand, 2 tons.
As for exports, in January-March 2025, the share of natural grape wines in Georgia's $1.4 billion exports decreased to 3.6% year-on-year. In this period, the country's income from the sale of locally produced wine decreased by 40.4% to $49 million 831 thousand.
During the same period Georgia sold a total of 16,552,203 liters of wine were abroad . While in the first quarter of last year, the volume of exported beverages stood at 30 million liters. As per the official statistics, wine took fourth place in the ranking of the largest export commodities.
