The growth rate of microbanks has accelerated.

For the second quarter of 2025, the combined assets of two microbanks in the market have surpassed GEL 800 million. As the risk director of MBC mentioned in her interview , the average growth rate of microbanks is between 21% and 22%, indicating a positive trend.

«We experienced strong growth during the first two quarters. The primary distinction between these companies and microfinance institutions lies in their capacity to offer customer deposits. Microbanks have begun to penetrate this market quite rapidly. We are optimistic that high activity within this sector in the deposit market will persist," Nino Devdariani says.

Furthermore, according to the NBG official statistics, microbanks have already placed deposits totaling 19 million GEL.

«Microbanks issue only insured deposits. This means that the risk of insured deposits placed in a microbank is the same as when placed in a bank. Nonetheless, microbanks provide their customers with the potential for higher returns. This trend is expected to persist, and in the future, the interest rates on deposits offered by microbanks will surpass those of traditional banks,,»Nino Devdariani notes.

In the first seven months of 2025, microbanks reported a net income of GEL 15 million. Currently, there are two microbanks operating in the market: «Crystal» and «MBC».
